My name is Matthew Boyd and I’m a senior majoring in Information Sciences and Technology Penn State graduate working full-time at Penn State. I completed two years of my education at Penn State Mont Alto and then attended two years of classes at University Park. After graduating in May 2009, I began working full-time for Penn State.

At Penn State Mont Alto, I worked part-time in the Information Technology Department as the ResCom Student Supervisor. My duties included assigning help desk tickets to residence hall network technicians, interviewing student employees, and creating the computer lab consultant schedule. I also has responsibilities within the IT department, including providing support to faculty and staff and assisting with network administration. My favorite project while working within the IT department at Mont Alto was deploying a campus-wide managed wireless network. This included configuring and deploying  20+ managed wireless access points across campus and working with the existing network infrastructure, including VLANs.

At University Park, I worked part-time in the Classroom and Lab Computing department within Penn State Information Technology Services. While working part-time, I helped maintain the backend servers and services that support university computing. This includes working in a Windows Active Directory environment with 4000+ clients.

Working part-time at Penn State Mont Alto and in Classroom and Lab Computing eventually led me to a full time Systems Design Specialist II position. As a member of the Systems Development Group, I continue to develop and maintain services that support lab computing. A lot of my work revolves around the Cooperative Lab Management project. Recently, I also had a hand in deploying a new Penn State Systems Management Service, which utilizes the BigFix Enterprise Suite. I really enjoy working on these projects because they can save a lot of time, energy, and resources University-wide!
